Physical Education (PE)

Intent: to promote participation in physical activity (daily), a healthy lifestyle, teamwork and mutual respect.

By the end of KS1 we expect all children to be able to:

· throw and catch with precision and accuracy

· maintain a simple balance for 5 seconds

· represent the school

· perform a forward roll

By the end of KS2 we expect all children to be able to:

· perform a forward roll on apparatus

· complete a controlled head/handstand on the floor

· swim 25 metres

· represent the school

· participate in rigorous physical activity for 10 minutes e.g. run without stopping or complete a high intensity cardiovascular circuit

Two hour long PE sessions are delivered weekly by coaches from Sporting Chance. These sessions address all the aspects of PE National Curriculum including invasion games, dance and gymnastics. Furthermore, Sporting Chance also provide two after school clubs.

We are part of the Axe Valley Sports Partnership and aim to attend as many events as possible throughout the school year. Our intention is that every child should have the opportunity to represent the school at a sporting activity. We have participated in several events including: High 5’s Netball, swimming galas, gymnastics and dance events, healthy lifestyle events and mountain biking.
