Physical Education

Our Intent

To promote participation in physical activity (daily), a healthy lifestyle, teamwork and mutual respect.

By the end of KS1 we expect all children to be able to:

· throw and catch with precision and accuracy

· maintain a simple balance for 5 seconds

· represent the school

· perform a forward roll

By the end of KS2 we expect all children to be able to:

· perform a forward roll on apparatus

· complete a controlled head/handstand on the floor

· swim 25 metres

· represent the school

· participate in rigorous physical activity for 10 minutes e.g. run without stopping or complete a high intensity cardiovascular circuit

On Monday, both classes receive PE lessons led by coaches from Sporting Chance, and typically on Thursday, children receive a PE lesson led by their class teacher. These lessons are one hour and cover all the aspects of PE National Curriculum including invasion games, dance and gymnastics. Furthermore, Sporting Chance also lead a multi sports club, after school on Monday and this warmly welcomes children from all years groups.

We work with a number of local Trust schools to provide opportunities for multi sports events across year groups, across the schools. These events enable our children to build relationships with peers in other schools and have regular opportunities to compete.  Our intention is that every child has the opportunity to represent the school at a sporting activity. We have participated in several events including: High 5’s Netball, East Devon cricket tournaments, swimming galas, gymnastics and dance events, healthy lifestyle events and mountain biking.
