Our Intent
At Musbury Primary School, our intent is firmly aligned to the non-statutory guidance (2010) for Religious education, where it explains the importance of RE is to develop:
- spiritual, moral, social & cultural development
- personal development and well-being
- community cohesion
Our Implementation
RE is taught weekly, as part of a rolling programme. For Class 1 we have a 2-year plan and for Class 2 we have a 4-year plan.
Where possible, we enrich the children's learning with trips, visits or we invite visitors in to school, so that the children have the opportunity to be inspired by people who practice their faith in the community. We recently visited Exeter Mosque and met the Imam, who showed us around and further developed the children's understanding of the routines for a practicing Muslim. We have also had a tour around Exeter Cathedral and invited our local Reverend into school to lead assemblies and talk about his Christian faith.
We follow the Devon and Torbay Agreed Syllabus for RE
Parents have the right to withdraw their children from religious education and should contact the Head of School to ask for this. Parents will be invited to a meeting to discuss withdrawal and to explore how their concern may be met. Parents are not obliged to attend such a meeting in which case withdrawal shall be put into effect immediately and the school will notify the parent.
